The Support Project
The SUPPORT project is co-funded by the European Commission, with the additional support of funding from the Scottish Executive and the Finnish Ministry of Health and Social Affairs.
This project will provide administrative, technical and scientific support to further the European Commission's mental health priorities. In the first year of the project this has taken three directions:
- The project organised an expert seminar to explore workplace wellbeing, an issue that had policy implications both within and outwith the Public Health policy area.
- The project provided facilitation and rapporteur roles in the formal consultation process around the Green Paper.
- The project provided intensive research and drafting support for the Commission during the development of the Impact Assessment and Communication documents.
The project will continue to promote the visibility and impact of the Commission's work on mental health, through a range of actions such as networking, communication and the production and dissemination of materials and promote co-operation and build capacity across sectors and among member states.
Since the inception of the SUPPORT, there have been some uncertainties and changes to the EC’s plans relating to production of the mental health strategy and plans for implementation. The publication of the strategy has taken longer than expected and the Commission has yet to publish details of mechanisms to support stakeholder engagement and build cross sectoral collaboration.
The project is grant funded from DG SANCO until at least March 2009.
