talking2ourselves website
The Scottish Development Centre in partnership with Penumbra was commissioned by NHS Health Scotland to work with a group of young people aged from 13 – 21 on researching and developing information for young people about health and wellbeing. This followed on from the national review of mental health services for children and young people in Scotland (SNAP). The group of young people subsequently decided to develop a web-based information resource and talking2ourselves was constructed.

 |
| The website aims to:
- Provide information for young people who want to know about well-being or who may be distressed
- Provide information and advice for parents and other adults supporting young people
- Describe young people’s experiences and learning
- Explore stigma and help to reduce its impact on young people
- Signpost to other resources and websites.

The website was launched in April 2006 and was well received by both young people and staff working in schools, including health coordinators and school liaison officers. The talking2ourselves website is now administered by YoungScot for the SDC.
Information resources in development 2006-2008 Information bulletins – e-newsletter
An e-newsletter is being developed in pilot formats with different interest groups (eg SDC Staff and associates; agencies working with children and young people across Scotland who participate in the Collaborative Network supported by SDC and YoungMinds). Once these pilots are complete, consumer surveys will be carried out to ensure that information and format continue to be engaging and helpful. This work will assist in furthering the objectives of the Framework for Children and Young People’s Mental Health through enhancing understanding of the role of information flow in health improvement. Emerging practice database
An emerging practice resource is currently in development. This will aim to foster an awareness of relevant research and emerging evidence from practice, knowledge of innovative approaches being tried or implemented in other areas and improved awareness of a range of models for new ways of working. This will have the potential to become a database of examples of existing projects and ongoing work, focusing initially on health improvement. |
